The band was formed in Los Angeles, California in 1998 by the famous American guitarist Zakk Wylde. To this date, the band has released ten studio albums, three video albums, two compiled albums, and one extended play.

In 2005 the band signed with Artemis Record and the album Mafia was released. In the year 2007 Black label Society parted ways with Roadrunner Records.
