The honest limitations

PU does not age; it stays as it is and then cracks or peels at the highest-flex points — on a skinny trouser that means the knees first. The tighter the cut, the harder those points work, so skinny PU trousers have a shorter working life than looser ones.

It also breathes less than hide, so it can feel warm. And leather conditioner does nothing for a coating — applying it wastes product and can leave residue.
