Overview & specifications

WOMEN B3 BOMBER SHEARLING AVIATOR JACKET

The Women B3 Bomber Shearling Aviator Jacket is a real sheepskin jacket — one hide, with the leather on the outside and the animal's own wool left on the inside. That single-piece construction is what separates genuine shearling from a leather jacket with a wool lining sewn in, and it is why B3s are as warm as they are. It sits in our women fashion jackets range.

  • Material: Genuine sheepskin shearling, leather face with natural wool inside
  • Fit: Relaxed B3 aviator cut
  • Closure: Front zip with a shearling collar
  • Color: Brown with natural wool
  • Care: Specialist sheepskin cleaner only, never machine wash, air regularly

How shearling actually keeps you warm

Wool fibres trap air, and trapped air is what insulates. On a shearling jacket the wool is still attached to the skin, standing upright in its natural density, so the layer of trapped air is thick and even with no cold spots where a stitched lining would have seams. The leather face on the outside blocks wind, which is the other half of the job. Together they make one of the warmest garments you can wear without any synthetic insulation at all. The B3 was designed for high-altitude bomber crews for exactly this reason.

The trade-offs, honestly

Shearling is heavy — significantly heavier than a leather jacket — and it is bulky, so it does not layer under anything. It is also genuinely too warm for mild weather; most owners find it comes out below about five degrees and stays in the wardrobe otherwise. And it cannot be washed at home. If you want a jacket for a cold winter, nothing beats it. If you want a three-season jacket, buy leather.

Caring for sheepskin

Never machine wash and never soak it — water mats the wool and hardens the skin. Brush the wool at the collar and cuffs occasionally to keep it lofted. Air the jacket rather than cleaning it; sheepskin resists odour naturally. When it does need cleaning, use a specialist sheepskin cleaner, not an ordinary dry cleaner, whose solvents strip the natural oils from the skin. Store it hanging on a broad hanger with space around it, never compressed.

Wearing it

Over a jumper with jeans and boots. The collar can be turned up and fastened against wind. Because it is bulky through the body, slim trousers balance it best.

Sizing and made to order

Order by bust measurement taken over a jumper, since that is what you will wear underneath. Sizes run XS to 5XL, with Custom taking bust, waist, shoulder, sleeve, and body length.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this real shearling?

Yes — a single sheepskin with the leather face outside and the natural wool inside, not a lining sewn into a leather shell.

How warm is it?

Very. Most owners wear it below about five degrees and find it too warm above that.

Can I layer it under a coat?

No. It is bulky and is designed as the outer layer.

Can it be washed or dry-cleaned?

Neither at home. Use a specialist sheepskin cleaner — ordinary dry-cleaning solvents strip the skin's natural oils.

How do I keep the wool lofted?

Brush the collar and cuffs occasionally and air the jacket rather than cleaning it.

What size should I order?

Measure your bust over a jumper, since that is what you will wear underneath.

Is shipping free?

Yes, free worldwide shipping and secure checkout.

Size & fit

  • 5 — Chest / bust: around the fullest part, under the arms.
  • 6 — Waist: around the natural waistline.
  • 7 — Hips: around the fullest part.
  • 15 — Sleeve: from shoulder to wrist with the elbow slightly bent.
  • 19 — Inseam: from crotch to ankle.
