Overview & specifications

Style Plain School Leather Bomber Jacket For Women

The school bomber is the simplest jacket shape there is: a body, two sleeves, a zip, and knitted ribbing at the collar, cuffs and hem. No panels, no hardware, no shaping. It has looked the same for seventy years because there is nothing to improve without making it worse, and it is the leather jacket that suits the widest range of people.

  • Material: Real leather
  • Fit: Regular bomber fit
  • Closure: Front zip with ribbed collar
  • Color: Black
  • Care: Dry cloth, condition twice a year, keep away from direct heat

What the ribbing does

The knitted rib at the collar, cuffs and hem is the entire engineering of a bomber. The hem rib grips the waist so wind cannot get up inside the jacket. The cuffs seal the wrists. The collar sits flat against the neck without needing a fastening.

Rib quality is what separates a bomber that holds its shape from one that does not. Cheap ribbing stretches out within a year and stops gripping, and once that happens the jacket hangs open at the waist permanently. Ours is a dense knit that recovers.

Why this shape suits nearly everyone

Because it has no strong lines of its own. A biker jacket imposes a shape at the shoulder and waist and either suits you or does not. A bomber has soft shoulders, room through the body and a hem that gathers where you are — so it adapts rather than imposing.

It is also the most comfortable leather jacket shape by a distance, since nothing about it is close-fitting.

Build

Real leather with enough weight to hang properly. Metal tooth main zip on a reinforced tape so the pull load goes into the seam. Double-stitched seams, reinforced at the shoulders. Two hip pockets, an interior pocket, and a smooth lining so the jacket slides on over knitwear.

With no hardware beyond the zip, it is one of the lighter leather jackets we make.

Fit and styling

Regular bomber fit. Take your normal size — room for a jumper is already built into the pattern, so avoid sizing up unless you want it noticeably loose.

Jeans and trainers, or over a dress with boots to soften it. Because the shape is neutral it does not date and does not commit the outfit to anything. See our Women Bomber Leather Jackets for other bomber variants, or Women Leather Jackets for biker and moto cuts.

Sizes and made to order

Each jacket is cut after you order. Standard sizes XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL, plus free Custom — send chest, waist, sleeve and back length after checkout. Free worldwide shipping and secure checkout are included.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this real leather?

Yes, real leather throughout, not faux or coated fabric.

Will the ribbing stretch out?

Not with normal wear. It is a dense knit that recovers rather than sagging, which is what keeps the jacket in shape.

Why does a bomber suit more people than a biker jacket?

It has no strong lines of its own — soft shoulders, room through the body, and a hem that gathers where you are. It adapts rather than imposing a shape.

Can I wear a jumper underneath?

Yes. Room for a layer is already built into the bomber pattern.

Is it warm?

The leather blocks wind and the ribbing seals the waist and wrists, so it works well through three seasons. Add a knit in deep winter.

What size should I order?

Your normal size. Avoid sizing up unless you want it noticeably loose. Custom sizing is free.

How do I care for it?

Dry cloth, keep away from direct heat, condition twice a year. Never machine wash or dry clean.

Size & fit

Measure your chest or bust at the fullest point, natural waist, shoulder width and sleeve length. Allow for the clothing you plan to wear underneath when discussing fit.

Use a flexible measuring tape. Keep measurements in one unit: centimetres or inches (1 inch = 2.54 cm). Enter the unit selected in the custom-size form.
