Overview & specifications
Men’s Modern A-2 Goatskin Jacket
This is an A-2 pattern updated for modern wear rather than reproduced exactly. "Modern" is a word that gets used loosely, so here is precisely what has changed from the original and what has not. It sits in our aviator and pilot leather jackets range.
- Material: Genuine goatskin with a natural pebble grain
- Fit: Updated A-2 cut, slimmer through the body and sleeve
- Closure: Front zip with a snap-down collar
- Color: Brown
- Care: Dry wipe, condition twice a year, hang on a broad hanger
What has changed from the original pattern
The sleeve is slimmer. Wartime jackets were cut with a fuller sleeve to go over a uniform tunic; nobody wears one now, and a full sleeve on a modern jacket reads baggy. The body is slightly longer. The original stopped high at the waist because a pilot sat down in it; an inch more length sits better standing up. The armhole is a little lower, which is more comfortable for everyday movement even though it restricts overhead reach slightly. Those three changes are what separate a modern A-2 from a strict reproduction.
What has not changed
The collar, the wind flap, the flapped patch pockets with no hand-warmers, the knit cuffs and waistband, and the goatskin. Take any of those away and it stops being an A-2 at all.
Goatskin and its grain
Goat hide has a naturally raised, irregular grain — small ridges and dimples from the follicle pattern, not embossed. It is lighter than cowhide, unusually strong for its weight, breaks in quickly, and stays supple in cold. As it wears, the raised grain smooths at the shoulders and elbows, which is what produces the sought-after uneven vintage look.
Stated plainly: a fashion jacket in the A-2 style. Not military issue, no insignia or squadron markings, no affiliation with any air force.
Sizing and made to order
The modern cut is slimmer than a wartime reproduction, so if you are used to vintage sizing, expect this one to fit closer at the same chest measurement. Sizes run XS to 5XL, with Custom taking chest, waist, shoulder, sleeve, and body length.

Size & fit
Measure your chest or bust at the fullest point, natural waist, shoulder width and sleeve length. Allow for the clothing you plan to wear underneath when discussing fit.
Use a flexible measuring tape. Keep measurements in one unit: centimetres or inches (1 inch = 2.54 cm). Enter the unit selected in the custom-size form.
How to take body measurements
Ask another person to help. Keep the tape level and comfortably snug. Record your body measurements without adding extra room.

- 6 — Waist: around the natural waistline.
- 7 — Hips: around the fullest part.
- 15 — Sleeve: from shoulder to wrist with the elbow slightly bent.
- 19 — Inseam: from crotch to ankle.
