Men's Drifter Leather Cargo Pants | Natural Grain Cowhide – Leather Outlet
The Drifter takes a cargo trouser pattern and builds it in natural grain cowhide. Thigh pockets, a relaxed leg and a hide that has not been sanded or heavily coated, so the natural surface texture of the skin is still visible. Cargo pockets are unusual on leather because each one adds weight and needs backing, which is why most leather trousers stick to five pockets — but if you actually carry things, they are the reason to choose this pair.
- Material: Natural grain cowhide
- Fit: Relaxed cargo cut
- Closure: Zip fly with belt loops
- Color: Natural brown
- Care: Dry cloth, hang by the waistband, condition twice a year
Natural grain cowhide
Natural grain means the surface of the hide has been left as it came off the animal rather than sanded smooth and sprayed with a pigment coating. You can see and feel the grain, and small variations in texture are visible across the panels — those are not faults, they are the evidence that the leather is full grain rather than corrected.
Natural grain also ages far better. A coated hide wears by having its coating rub off; an uncoated one develops a patina that deepens with use. On a hard-wearing garment like a cargo trouser, that difference shows within a year.
The pockets
Thigh pockets on each leg, in addition to the standard front and rear pockets. Each cargo pocket is backed and the flap is stitched so it lies flat rather than curling, and the mounting points are reinforced — a loaded pocket on a leather panel pulls hard, and an unreinforced one will eventually tear the hide.
That reinforcement is why a leather cargo trouser costs more to make than a plain pair.
Fit and wearing them
The cut is relaxed rather than slim, as a cargo trouser should be — you cannot use thigh pockets on a leg cut close. Take your normal waist size. Leather does not stretch, so go up rather than down if you are between sizes, or take the free Custom option.
Boots suit them best. Wear them with a plain top and let the trousers be the interesting part of the outfit; cargo pockets plus a busy shirt is too much. Other cuts are in our Men Leather Pants, and jackets in our Men Leather Jackets.
Sizes and made to order
Each pair is cut after you order. Standard sizes are XS, S, M, L, XL, 2XL, 3XL, 4XL and 5XL, plus Custom — send waist, hip, thigh and inside leg after checkout at no extra charge. Free worldwide shipping and secure checkout are included.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does natural grain mean?
The hide surface has been left as it came, rather than sanded and sprayed with a pigment coating. The grain is visible and the leather ages with a patina.
Are the texture variations a fault?
No. Small variations across panels are normal on natural grain hide and are how you tell it from corrected leather.
Are the cargo pockets usable?
Yes, and their mounting points are reinforced so a loaded pocket does not pull on the hide.
Why are they cut relaxed?
Thigh pockets do not work on a close-cut leg. The relaxed fit is what makes the pockets usable.
What size should I order?
Your normal waist size, sizing up rather than down if you are between. Custom is free.
How long until they arrive?
They are made to order. Allow around two weeks including free shipping; tracking is emailed on dispatch.
How do I care for them?
Wipe with a dry cloth, hang by the waistband, condition twice a year with a neutral conditioner. Never machine wash or dry clean.
Size & fit
Measure your natural waist, the fullest part of your hips and the inside leg from crotch to ankle. For chaps, also measure your thigh over the trousers you plan to wear.
Use a flexible measuring tape. Keep measurements in one unit: centimetres or inches (1 inch = 2.54 cm). Enter the unit selected in the custom-size form.
How to take body measurements
Ask another person to help. Keep the tape level and comfortably snug. Record your body measurements without adding extra room.
- 5 — Chest / bust: around the fullest part, under the arms.
- 6 — Waist: around the natural waistline.
- 7 — Hips: around the fullest part.
- 15 — Sleeve: from shoulder to wrist with the elbow slightly bent.
- 19 — Inseam: from crotch to ankle.
