Overview & specifications
Men Brown Bomber Shearling Jacket
This is shearling in a bomber length, in the traditional brown. Two decisions there, and the second one is worth explaining, because brown shearling is what almost every original flight jacket was — and there is a reason for that.
- Material: Genuine shearling sheepskin
- Fit: Regular fit, bomber length
- Closure: Front zip
- Color: Brown with natural cream wool
- Care: Brush the wool, wipe the hide, specialist cleaning only
Why original shearling jackets were brown
Not a design choice. Sheepskin tans to a warm brown with vegetable and chrome tanning alike, and dyeing it darker or lighter is an extra process that adds cost and complexity — particularly because the attached fleece takes dye differently from the skin.
Military procurement did not pay for unnecessary processes, so flight jackets were the colour the material came out. The classic brown-with-cream-fleece look is therefore the natural colour of the material, which is part of why it has never dated.
Why a bomber length
Shearling is thick, and length multiplies bulk. A hip-length bomber gives you almost all the torso warmth of a longer coat while staying light enough to drive in, sit in and move through a crowded room in.
What you lose is coverage below the waist, which matters when standing still in wind. For most everyday use, the bomber is the better trade.
Construction, fit and honest notes
One sheepskin, tanned with the fleece attached: hide outward blocking wind, wool inward trapping air, no separate lining, and no seam between shell and insulation for cold to exploit.
Take your normal size — the pattern already allows for the fleece thickness. Honest points: still heavy compared with any fabric jacket. A fashion jacket rather than military surplus, with no genuine service insignia. Avoid heavy rain and never dry it near direct heat.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why were original flight jackets brown?
Because sheepskin tans to brown naturally and dyeing it is an extra cost. The classic look is simply the colour of the material.
Why choose a bomber length?
Almost all the torso warmth of a longer coat, with far less bulk — easier to drive in, sit in and move around in.
What do I lose?
Coverage below the waist, which matters when standing still in wind.
Is the shearling real?
Yes — genuine sheepskin tanned with the wool attached.
Should I size up?
No. The pattern already allows for the fleece thickness.
How should it be cleaned?
Brush the wool, wipe the hide, and use a specialist sheepskin cleaner — never a standard dry cleaner.
Do you offer custom sizing?
Yes — XS to 5XL plus Custom to your own measurements.
Size & fit
Measure your chest or bust at the fullest point, natural waist, shoulder width and sleeve length. Allow for the clothing you plan to wear underneath when discussing fit.
Use a flexible measuring tape. Keep measurements in one unit: centimetres or inches (1 inch = 2.54 cm). Enter the unit selected in the custom-size form.
How to take body measurements
Ask another person to help. Keep the tape level and comfortably snug. Record your body measurements without adding extra room.
- 5 — Chest / bust: around the fullest part, under the arms.
- 6 — Waist: around the natural waistline.
- 7 — Hips: around the fullest part.
- 15 — Sleeve: from shoulder to wrist with the elbow slightly bent.
- 19 — Inseam: from crotch to ankle.
