MEN B3 BOMBER AVIATOR SHEARLING SHEEPSKIN LEATHER WINTER JACKET
A B-3 shearling jacket is one of the more expensive things in a wardrobe and one of the cheapest over its lifetime. That sounds like a sales line; it is arithmetic, and it is the honest case for buying one. It sits in our B3 leather bomber jackets range.
- Material: Genuine sheepskin shearling — leather face outside, natural wool inside
- Fit: Classic wide B-3 cut, short in the body
- Closure: Front zip with collar and waist straps
- Color: Brown with natural wool
- Care: Specialist sheepskin cleaner only, never soak, brush the wool
Cost per winter
A synthetic winter coat typically gives three to five good seasons before the insulation compacts and the outer fabric wears through at the cuffs. A properly made sheepskin B-3, looked after, is still working after twenty. Divide the price by the years and the shearling is usually the cheaper garment — substantially so. It is also repairable in a way a bonded synthetic coat is not: seams can be restitched, the zip replaced, worn wool re-lofted.
What actually kills a shearling jacket
Not wear. Three things: soaking, which mats the wool and hardens the skin permanently; ordinary dry-cleaning, whose solvents strip the oils that keep the skin supple; and compressed storage, which flattens the wool and leaves it that way. Avoid those three and the jacket essentially does not degrade. Ordinary wear, scuffs and rain caught out walking are not a problem.
Warmth, and being honest about the limits
Extremely warm — designed for unheated cockpits at altitude — and correspondingly heavy and bulky. It does not layer under anything, and most owners find it too warm above about five degrees. If you want a jacket for a genuinely cold winter, this is the best thing you can buy. If you want a three-season jacket, buy leather instead.
Care in practice
Brush the wool at collar and cuffs to keep it lofted. Air it rather than cleaning it, since sheepskin resists odour naturally. Hang it on a broad hanger with space around it. If it needs cleaning, use a specialist sheepskin cleaner.
Stated plainly: a fashion jacket in the B-3 style. Not military issue, no insignia, no affiliation with any air force.
Sizing and made to order
Measure your chest over a jumper, and take the matching size — do not size down to slim the silhouette, which only compresses the wool. Sizes run XS to 5XL, with Custom taking chest, waist, shoulder, sleeve, and body length.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long will a shearling jacket last?
Decades, if it is kept dry, never conventionally dry-cleaned, and stored hanging rather than compressed.
What damages sheepskin?
Soaking, solvent dry-cleaning, and compressed storage. Ordinary wear does not.
Is it too warm for mild weather?
For most people, yes above about five degrees. It is a genuine cold-weather jacket.
Can I layer it under a coat?
No. It is bulky and designed as the outer layer.
Should I size down for a slimmer fit?
No — that compresses the wool and reduces the warmth.
Do you offer custom sizing?
Yes. Choose Custom and send chest, waist, shoulder, sleeve, and body length.
Is shipping free?
Yes, free worldwide shipping and secure checkout.
Size & fit
Measure your chest or bust at the fullest point, natural waist, shoulder width and sleeve length. Allow for the clothing you plan to wear underneath when discussing fit.
Use a flexible measuring tape. Keep measurements in one unit: centimetres or inches (1 inch = 2.54 cm). Enter the unit selected in the custom-size form.
How to take body measurements
Ask another person to help. Keep the tape level and comfortably snug. Record your body measurements without adding extra room.
- 5 — Chest / bust: around the fullest part, under the arms.
- 6 — Waist: around the natural waistline.
- 7 — Hips: around the fullest part.
- 15 — Sleeve: from shoulder to wrist with the elbow slightly bent.
- 19 — Inseam: from crotch to ankle.
