A2 Aviator Distressed Cowhide Leather Bomber Aviator Flight Jacket
This A-2 flight jacket pairs the heaviest of the flight-jacket hides with a distressed finish, which is a combination that behaves differently from distressed lambskin or goatskin. Cowhide holds a distressed surface far longer, and that is worth knowing if you want the look to last. It sits in our aviator and pilot leather jackets range.
- Material: Genuine cowhide with a distressed finish
- Fit: Classic A-2 cut
- Closure: Front zip with knitted cuffs and waistband
- Color: Distressed brown
- Care: Dry wipe, clear conditioner twice a year, let it wear naturally
Why distressed cowhide holds its look
Distressing works by breaking the surface finish at the points where wear would break it. On a thin, soft hide like lambskin that surface keeps moving as the leather flexes, so the distressed pattern gradually softens and merges into general wear. Cowhide is thicker and more rigid, so the distressed areas stay where they were put and the contrast between light high points and dark creases holds for years. If the worn-in look is the reason you are buying, cowhide is the hide that keeps it.
The weight, honestly
A cowhide A-2 is a heavy jacket. It has real presence on the shoulders, takes three or four weeks of wear to become comfortable, and is warmer than a lambskin equivalent. In return it will outlast every other jacket you own. If you want something you can throw on without noticing, look at our lambskin and sheep leather jackets instead — that is a real difference, not a marketing distinction.
Keeping it right
Use only a clear conditioner, twice a year, and apply it thinly. Pigmented conditioners fill in the light high points and flatten the distressing. Keep the jacket off radiators, and if it gets soaked, let it dry naturally at room temperature. Marks and additional wear on top of the distressing simply add to it.
Stated plainly: this is a fashion jacket in the A-2 style. Not military issue, no insignia or squadron markings, no affiliation with any air force, and not protective equipment.
Sizing and made to order
Measure your chest over a T-shirt and buy close — the A-2 is meant to be snug, and cowhide relaxes with wear. Sizes run XS to 5XL, with Custom taking chest, waist, shoulder, sleeve, and body length.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why cowhide for a distressed jacket?

Is it heavy?
Yes, noticeably. It also takes three or four weeks of wear to become comfortable, and lasts far longer than lighter hides.
Can I use any leather conditioner?
Use a clear one, thinly, twice a year. Pigmented products flatten the distressed contrast.

No. Additional marks simply add to the distressed look.
